Through a partnership between Delta Dental of Indiana and SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards®, eligible dentists and their staff can earn Tuition Rewards points that can be applied toward college tuition for children, stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces or nephews, or godchildren.
Eligible dentists and staff earn Tuition Rewards points that represent a guaranteed minimum discount equivalent to $1, with a maximum discount of up to one year’s tuition spread equally over four years of undergraduate, full-time education at one of SAGE’s participating colleges.

Every three years, Delta Dental is required to recredential network dentists as part of your Delta Dental participating provider agreement. We have recently moved to an electronic enrollment and credentialing tool called AppCentral, which allows you to complete required documentation, receive real-time application status updates and view archived submissions throughout the application process. You will receive an email from evalAppentral@CACTUSSoftware.com when it is time for you to recredential.

The EPA amalgam separator rule and how best to comply
The EPA Dental Effluent Guidelines, commonly referred to as the amalgam rule, was put into effect on July 14, 2017, with a compliance deadline of July 14, 2020.
According to the EPA, dental amalgam contains mercury in a highly concentrated form that is easy to collect and recycle. Mercury is a persistent, bio-accumulative pollutant with well-documented neurotoxic effects on humans. The EPA states that dental offices are one of the main sources of mercury discharges to publicly owned treatment works (POTW), approximately 5.1 tons.
The rule aims to ensure that all dentists who either place or remove amalgam properly collect and recycle the waste generated from those activities. General dentists and endodontists need to comply with this regulation. The specialties that are exempted from the rule include oral pathology, oral and maxillofacial radiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics.
The EPA is requiring a one-time compliance report to be filled out by October 12, 2020. If inspected, the dental office, clinic, hospital, etc. must show a copy of the annual compliance certificate provided by the vendor.
Delta Dental offers amalgam separators through DRNA
Delta Dental participating providers are eligible to receive a free amalgam separator ($850 value)1 when signing a three- or five-year service agreement with DRNA. The service agreement locks in the annual recycling fee of $500/year for an office with one to eight chairs, or $750/year for an office with nine to 16 chairs.2 Each year, DRNA ships out a new unit, recycles the old one and provides the office with documentation; all of this is included in the annual fee. DRNA guarantees that its unit will not fill up sooner than a year.
If Delta Dental providers already have an amalgam separator installed, and it is the Solmetex Hg5,3 DRNA sells a generic version of the cartridges for that unit at a 42 percent4 discount.

Online continuing education courses—have you registered?
Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana is pleased to offer new online continuing education (CE) courses. Each CE program contains course content, assessment and a certificate of completion. Delta Dental is an accredited ADA CERP CE provider.
How do I access these courses?
Visit http://dewlead.dewpoint.com/Bridge and register with your office’s valid National Provider Identification (NPI). After you register and your NPI is confirmed, you will be sent an email to set your password for your free learning courses.

SEAL Indiana receives Delta Dental Foundation grant
The Delta Dental Foundation recently granted $40,000 for SEAL Indiana, a not-for-profit mobile dental program operated by the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
SEAL Indiana serves children from low-income families and provides evidence-based preventive dental care, including exams, sealants and fluoride varnish. It also helps parents find local dentists for their children, and offers service-learning experiences for dental and dental hygiene students.
Over the past 16 years, SEAL Indiana has provided 26,377 fluoride varnish treatments and has placed 51,047 sealants on permanent teeth of 13,527 children ages 6 to 18.
DDF has provided funding for the program since 2006. SEAL Indiana is endorsed by the Indiana Dental Association and the Indiana State of Health Department.
